You mean, you can be a professional sex curator? Apparently, this is not only a real job, but a pretty awesome one, too. According to their website, the mission of the NYC Museum of Sex “is to preserve and present the history, evolution and cultural significance of human sexuality. The Museum produces exhibitions, publications and programs that bring the best of current scholarship on sex and sexuality to the widest possible audiences and is committed to encouraging public enlightenment, discourse and engagement.” Their museum tracks the progression of human sexuality, and the importance of human sexuality and development in our culture. Plus, they have a bar and a cafe, so you can talk human sexuality with some sexy new friends.
Not to be outdone, the Sex Museum in Amsterdam focuses more on the history of eroticism, and has art dating back through the Middle Ages showcasing the evolution of eroticism.
There’s even an academic program for the advanced study of Human Sexuality based in San Francisco!
So what does this have to do with sexual assault, and with sexual assault prevention? We at Speak About It at big believes in promoting healthy sexuality as a form of primary prevention of sexual assault. By understanding our own bodies, and our own boundaries, we can be more comfortable, more confident, and more communicative with our partners. Check out our page dedicated to Healthy Sexuality to help tie all the pieces together.
