Share a Story

Part of what makes Speak About It unique are the true stories and experiences shared in each of the monologues read by our actors during the show. These stories were written and shared with us by real people about their experiences with relationships, sexuality, and sexual assault in high school and college.

We do our best in every performance of Speak About It to represent as full a range of experiences with relationships and sexuality as possible, while also catering to the experience level of the audience to which we are presenting. Of course, it is simply not possible to represent the full spectrum of possible sexual experiences in just one hour, but we hope that in every show each audience member can relate to at least one performer, story, or scene.

We believe that everyone has a story about their experience with sexuality. Whether you’re having sex or you’re not, you want to or you don’t, you’re a survivor of sexual assault or you know someone who is, everyone’s story is different and unique. Maybe you heard a familiar story in the performance, or you feel that your experiences have been drastically different than those presented in the show. Whatever your story may be, we want to hear it. And if you feel comfortable sharing your story with us, we would be honored to have the opportunity to include it in future versions of our performance.

To share a story, please email us at SpeakAboutItOnline@gmail.com. For more information on the process, check out our FAQ below.

Can I submit my story anonymously?
Due to the nature of Speak About It as a for-hire production, we are unable to include anonymously submitted stories as monologues within the show. All contributors must sign a release granting Speak About It, Inc. the right to perform their written work, which serves as a legal protection for both the organization and the individuals who share stories. We value the courage and strength needed to share a story, and are committed to honoring this process by keeping the submission process and the identities of individuals who contribute their stories highly confidential.
How will Speak About It, Inc. protect my confidentiality as a submitter?
When you share a story for inclusion as a monologue in Speak About It, you will be asked to sign a release granting our organization the right to perform your written work. Your story and the release form will be separated and stored in secure files, so that your identity and signature cannot be attached to your specific story. The Speak About It, Inc. staff take confidentiality very seriously, and will never discuss the fact that you have submitted a story to our organization with any outside person or entity.
What if I'm not sure how to write my story as a monologue for performance, or I'm struggling with the writing process in general?
Our staff is happy to work with you on writing and editing your story in a format that will work within the context of our performances. For individual assistance, please contact us.
How long should my story be?
Speak About It is approximately one hour in length, and we have a lot of content and educational information to provide in that time. In order to include as many experiences and perspectives as we can, we ask that submitted stories run between 150 and 650 words. If you need help editing your monologue, feel free to contact us for help and suggestions.
What if I submit a story, but later on decide that I would rather not have it be part of the show?
You may request that your story be removed from the show at any time by contacting our Executive Director, Shana Natelson.

Still have questions about the submission process?
Please don’t hesitate to contact us. We would love to hear from you!
