Submit a Story

March 20, 2011 by SpeakAboutIt

Part of what makes Speak About It so unique is our ability to change, adapt and evolve as we grow and travel. Through our performances, we hope to spark dialogue about sexual assault education and prevention. We want to create healthier dating, sex and relationship cultures through communication. We hope the conversation continues long after we leave your campus, that students will feel inspired and empowered to make positive changes.

The monologues we use in the performance are an example of that empowerment – about half the show is comprised of powerful and honest monologues that have been submitted by current college students or recent graduates. As we visit more and more schools, we want to keep adding people’s stories to the performance.

Everyone has a different motivation for wanting to submit a story. Maybe you’ve been inspired by something you heard or saw in the performance, or maybe your story is completely different. Maybe you have a great story about getting consent, or an example of bystander intervention at its finest. And many survivors of sexual assault find strength and healing through the writing process. Whatever your story is, and however it would help you to write it, we would be honored to help continue your dialogue and incorporate your story into the performance.

For more information about this, or if you have any questions, shoot us an email at speakaboutitonline@gmail.com.

*Just a quick note about this. We are committed to preserving the anonymity of our authors, and do our best to maintain the original honesty and integrity of the stories. We do ask that if you choose to submit a monologue, that you will fill out a release form for us. We will never share your story without your permission, and your name (and institution) will only be connected to your story in the release, never in a performance or any other representation of the show.
